Music at TCU

One of my favorite pieces by Chin-Cheng Lin is “Kaleidoscope”. Chin-Cheng Lin is one of my favorite marimba soloists and composer. He is from Taiwan and continues to inspire me with his talent and good nature. He too is also an advocate for equality in music. I played in my own style and it sounds different than the origial because music is all about inserting your own experience and style to pieces to make them uniquely you. This is also done when people of different cultures and geography come together to make something new.

Hezan Daroona playing jazz at the TCU Jazz festival. The TCU jazz band consist of many different kinds of musicians who play all kinds of styles from classical, to rock, to even mariachi! It allows people of all kinds to come together and play jazz. This chart, which is a staple in the jazz world, has many interpretations to it and most of them actually don’t evn have a vibe (the instrument Hezan is playing) solo so he managed to create something completely fresh with an already existing format/composition. He used his own experience and skills to compose somthing totally new.
